What law require is to have a unique invoice number for financial year.

It does not ask you to start from first invoice number. You can continue with your old invoice numbers.

There are only 2 conditions regarding invoice number under GST Law.

  1. Invoice number should be contineous
  2. Invoice number should be unique for a financial year.
